City Uses Jala Hoaks Channel to Ward Off False Information

Jakarta Government continues to prevent the spread of false information related to Jakarta Government. In order to ward off the false information, city launched information and clarification channel called Jakarta Lawan Hoaks (Jala Hoaks).

It is launched to prevent false information in public, one of them is related to COVID-19

This information channel is managed by Public Information Service Section under Jakarta Communication, Information, and Statistic Agency (Diskominfotik). Its purpose is to monitor and receive report regarding false information in social media, then respond it by clarifiying the facts.

"It is launched to prevent false information in public, one of them is related to COVID-19," stated Atika Nur Rahmania, Head of Jakarta Diskominfotik, Thursday (3/26).

Through digital literation, she continued, this channel is also created to educate people, especially Jakartans, to ward off false information and share positive content with the others either directly or via social media.

Jala Hoaks channel has been active since Saturday, March 3, 2020. It is managed by team who verify every reports from hotline and Whatsapp related spreading news in Jakarta that are considered hoax.

Any false information will be clarified, such as hoax or false information that is disseminated intentionally and potentially deceptive, harmful, destructive, and / or trick. Moreover, there are hoax categories in this channel, namely: 1) Fabricated content, new content that is intentionally created and designed to deceive and harm; 2) Manipulated content, when a content is manipulated to damage or trick; 3) Imposter content, by imitating the original content; 4) False context, pairing up the real content with incorrect information; 5) Misleading content, use misleading information to frame an issue or individual; 6) false connection, when the headline, picture, or information is not matching with content; 7) satire or parody, creator has no intention to do harm but it has the potential to trick.
